Water project in Kalavapudi Agraharam Village in AP, India

Accessing clean and safe water is still a matter of life and death in India. In one of the surveys, it was noted that about two million people, most of them children, die annually due to waterborne diseases. Tragically, these diseases are all preventable!

Kalavapudi Agraharam and its surrounding villages are not immune from this problem. The people in these villages have to travel about 3 to 4 miles every day to get a pot of drinking water. The people who cannot travel this distance are forced to take unclean water. As a result, their health is getting spoils.

With the financial support of Hope for Humanity, (sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Jaganmohan Rao), and Mr. Sita Ramaiah from Raghavapuram and Mr. Veeraju from Parnasa village this water project was started on 8th October 2008 with an estimated budget of Rs.15,51,000/-. Mr. Boppana Lakshmi Jagan Mohan Rao and Mrs Krishna K Rao have inaugurated this completed plant on 17th January 2009 along with Mr. Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao, the Cabinet Minister of AP State.

Following are some of the comments from the villagers:

1.The President of Kalavapudi agrhharam village says that “We are extremely thankful to the Hope for Humanity and other donors for their kind support to build and run this water project. Now, all my village people are enjoying the clean and safe water”.

2.Mr. Venkateswara Rao, a 55 year-old man, says “Earlier, I was required to walk four miles to the neighbouring village to get the drinking water. Now, the water project is available in my village and I am enjoying pure and safe water within my village. My sincere thanks to all the donors of the water plant”
